EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Kaja Kallas said the sanctions list includes the Naval Command of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and two related officials. Under the measures, their assets in EU member states will be frozen and they will be banned from entering the EU.
Kallas said the decision marks the first time the EU has activated its new sanctions regime adopted in May aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation.
