Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has continuously strengthened its comprehensive, ultimate leadership of the army in politics, ideology, organization, and personnel.

Over the last 70 years, the Party has maintained its leadership of the army in all circumstances and historical periods which is decisive to the development, fighting, and victory of the Vietnam People’s Army. The army is a sharp revolutionary violence tool, a loyal political force of the Party of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Steadfast in the principle of the Party leading the army

In the current situation, in order to reinforce the Party’s leadership of the army and ensure that the army holds fast to the revolutionary character and purpose, ideals worth fighting for, and national defense tasks, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong underlined an awareness consensus on the CPV’s ultimate, direct leadership of the VPA in any circumstance and condition. The leadership of the army cannot be shared with any other individual or political force.

Mr. Trong said the Party exercises its leadership of the army in all areas. The Party decides military tactics, the development orientations of the army and national defense, and leads the building of a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army. The CPV decides basic issues to build a strong army in politics, ideology, and organization, and loyal to the Party, the nation, and the people to defend the nation.

Improving the capacity, leadership of Party organizations

The second task that Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong mentioned in his article is to improve the organization, capacity, leadership, fighting spirit, and motivation of Party organizations and the quality of cadres and party members. Party Committees have to ensure the principles of democratic centralism, cooperative leadership, and individual responsibility, paying attention to developing and implementing work regulations and leadership statutes in essential areas, and improving the quality of Party activities, unity, and consensus in all Party units, and appropriate personnel organization.

Fighting schemes of peaceful evolution

Party leader Trong said it is crucial to foil all schemes by hostile forces to cause peaceful evolution and military depoliticization. He said that every single official, Party member, and soldier should always keep in mind that the Vietnamese army is a revolutionary army, of the people and for the people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He called for effective implementation of the Party resolution on Party building along with following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, preventing the regression of political ideologies and morality, ambiguity, lack of faith or vigilance, opportunism, pragmatism, individualism, and law violations, and increasing military discipline. The Party leader stressed the importance of renovating mass mobilization to strengthen the bond between the Party, army, and people and increase people’s faith in the Party, state, and army.

Mr. Trong concluded that the Party, state and people of Vietnam believe the Vietnam People’s Army will continue to enhance the values of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and build a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army, contributing to safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam so as to be worthy of the trust of the Party, state, and people.
