8th VFF Congress opens

(VOVworld) – The 8th Vietnam Fatherland Front Congress is aimed at enhancing national unity, said Nguyen Thien Nhan, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee, adding that it will contribute to national construction and defense in the new context. Mr. Nhan addressed the opening ceremony Friday in Hanoi, which was attended by senior party and government leaders, the diplomatic corps in Hanoi, and representatives of all social strata in Vietnam and abroad. Nhan said: "It’s necessary for the Vietnam Fatherland Front to radically reform and clearly identify targets of action programs to better promote national unity to serve national construction and defense in the new context. This will fulfill tasks specified in the manifesto for National Construction during the Transitional Period towards Socialism, follow the 2013 Constitution, and meet the people’s aspirations."

The Congress will review the five-year implementation of the VFF’s Program of Action for the 2009-2014 term, draw lessons, and set goals and action programs for the next year. It will also approve VFF statutes (revised and supplemented), and conduct democratic consultative meetings to elect the VFF Central Committee for the new term.
