Activities mark 40th anniversary of national reunification

(VOVworld) – Construction of the Nguyen Huu Canh temple began in Ho Chi Minh city on Monday as part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification. The temple will be built on a 7,400-square-meter area inside the Park of Ethnic Culture and History to pay tribute to Nguyen Huu Canh, who established Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty in Saigon and the Gia Định region in 1698, now Ho Chi Minh city.

An art festival featuring Vietnam’s heroic traditions concluded on Monday in the central province of Quang Tri. 19 art troupes brought to the festival 100 expertly-choreographed performances. Organizers presented 25 gold medals for the best performances.

The Vietnam National Museum of History in Hanoi has held a discussion between young police officers, commandoes, soldiers, and 2 historical eyewitnesses. They were lieutenant general Duong Cong Suu and sergeant Ngo Sy Nguyen, who were the artillerymen in the first tank to ram the main gates of the Independence Palace on April 30th, 1975.
