(VOVworld)- The wreckage of Air Algérie flight AH5017 from Burkina Faso to Algeria has been discovered in Gossi, Mali, about 50km from the Burkina Faso border. General Gilbert Diendiere of the Burkina Faso army, who is also chief coordinator of the crisis unit established in Ouagadougou to find the jet, made the announcement on Thursday. He added that Burkina Faso has compared with the radar image of the plane, which disappeared from radar with 116 people on board, when it was dropped off the radar and contacted witnesses to verify the information. The same day, Algeria Press Service (APS) quoted Amar Ghoul, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works as saying that the plane’s wreckage could have been found in Mali, however, this information needs to be verified. Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubakar Keita also confirmed that there were witnesses who saw wreckage of AH5017 in northern Mali. APS also quoted Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ramtane Lamamra affirming the information, adding that rescue teams are approaching the crash scene. The cause of the incident has not been clarified. According to French officials, AH-5017 passed the inspection last month in France and was under good condition; however, technical problem was not excluded.
