(VOVworld)- Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh on Wednesday discussed with a number of US congresspersons and businesses ways to further bilateral economic and trade ties based on the comprehensive partnership established in July 2013. The Deputy Prime Minister said that the acceleration and conclusion of the negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership played a key role in enhancing bilateral ties. At meetings with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance Ron Wyden and Chairman of the House Budget Committee Dave Camp, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh proposed the US Congress grant Vietnam certain flexibility during the time of transition and requested technical assistance in implementing the TPP agreements.

The Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister discussed with US Congressmen issues relating to the recognition of Vietnam’s market economy status and the Catfish Inspection Program including Vietnamese basa fish under the Agricultural Act of 2014. At a meeting with a number of US businesses and representatives from the US-ASEAN Business Council and the American Chamber of Commerce, the Deputy Prime Minister asked US businesses to support and facilitate the early conclusion of TPP negotiations. On the same day, Mr. Ninh met with scholars from the Vietnam Professionals Network in the US. The scholars and Vietnamese delegates proposed initiatives to help Vietnam overcome challenges and effectively utilize opportunities presented by the TPP in national development in the years to come.
