Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh concludes visit to the US

(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh concluded his visit to the US in a bid to accelerate negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPP) and bolster the two countries’ economic ties.

During the visit, Mr. Ninh met with senior officials who have had a great impact on the progress and benefits of the two countries after joining the TPP. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh, Head of Vietnam’s TPP negotiation delegation, said: "At the meetings, Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to cooperation with the US and TPP negotiation, considering it a significant measure towards boosting Vietnam-US relations. Vietnam is determined to coordinate with the US and related parties to finalize the TPP soon". 

Members of the US congress agreed with Deputy Prime Minister Ninh’s proposal to accelerate the process of TPP negotiation. The US agreed to provide technical assistance in the financial sector, anti money-laundering, the resumption of ODA and providing more humanitarian and development assistance to projects in Vietnam. The two sides showed their to open direct flights between Vietnam and the US next year. Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh again: "The US greatly appreciates Vietnam’s effort in TPP negotiations, especially Vietnam’s successful organization of negotiations at the chief negotiator level earlier this month. They also realized the development gap between Vietnam and TPP negotiating countries, so they will take into consideration of Vietnam’s request in the transition period to fulfill the TPP’s standards".
