(VOVworld)- Hau Giang province held a meeting to mark the 40^th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification and honor heroic Vietnamese mothers in Vi Thanh city on Wednesday.

In his address, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted the importance of the 1975 Great Spring Victory. He praised Hau Giang people’s great contribution to the nation: "This is the victory of the martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, armed forces, war invalids and those who fought and won in the battlefield. We forever remember and feel grateful for their sacrifices. We need to raise our responsibility to deserve to those heroic sacrifices”.

Prime Minister Dung praised Hau Giang province’s achievements over the past 40 years with an annual GDP growth rate of 12.5% and income per capita of 1,700 USD. The Prime Minister asked the province to focus more on culture, health care, and education as well as support disadvantaged people, heroic mothers and social beneficiaries.
Speaking at a meeting to mark the occasion in Can Tho city on Tuesday, Prime Minister Dung acknowledged Can Tho authorities and residents’ contributions to national liberation struggles. The Prime Minister said: “Vietnam has gone through several struggles against foreign invaders to wrest back national independence and reunified the country with several sacrifices. We value the peaceful life we have today. Can Tho Party committee, administration and people need to bring into play their staunch spirit and heroic tradition to further develop the city”.
