(VOVworld) - Junichi Ihara, head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry’s Asian affairs bureau, met Monday with his Chinese counterpart Kong Xuanyou at a closed-door meeting in Beijing.
According to Kyodo news agency, the two diplomats focused on ways to thaw frosty bilateral ties, which have been chilled by territorial disputes and reminders of previous wars.
The same day, Ihara who is also Japan’s chief negotiator on North Korea, met with Wu Dawei, China’s Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs, about Pyongyang’s recent nuclear tests and claim to have miniaturized nuclear warheads, a key step towards building nuclear missiles.
