(VOVworld) – The draft Law on the Organization of Local Government topped the agenda of the National Assembly deputies’ meeting on Thursday which was broadcast live nationwide. Nguyen Dinh Bich, Deputy Chairman of the Hai Phong municipal People’s Council said current regulations regarding the organization of local governments are in accordance with the 2013 Constitution to ensure local governments of the people, for the people, and by the people. They argued that the maintenance of a People’s Council and a People’s Committee in every administrative unit will ensure the stability of the state apparatus, avoid unnecessary changes in the organization of local governments, and ensure that the organization of local governments is in line with Vietnam’s current political system.
Deputies agreed to maintain the existing organization of local governments.  But they proposed amendments to the draft Law on the Organization of Local Government to improve the activities of People’s Councils and adjust the authority and responsibilities of local governments to match the rural and urban characteristics of each locality.
