National Women’s Congress opens

(VOVworld)-More than 1,000 delegates representing women from across Vietnam are attending the 12th National Women’s Congress, which opened in Hanoi on Tuesday.

The gathering will discuss assisting women in building a happy family, start-ups, economic development, and environment protection; engaging them into building the Party and administration, social supervision and criticism; and stepping up people-to-people diplomacy.

Addressing the event, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong urged the Vietnam Women’s Union to improve the role of women in society and the family.

“We need to build a contingent of Vietnam Women’s Union staff, who are creative, enthusiastic and dedicated. It’s crucial to spot and nurture talented women, who are capable of holding management posts to serve national development”, Mr. Trong stressed.

The opening session of the Congress was attended by State President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

On this occasion, a photo exhibition “Vietnamese women – hallmark of 30-year renovation” are taking place at the National Convention Center while a spring book fair is slated for next week at the Vietnam Women’s Museum.
