OVs in Australia, New Caledonia preserve national identities
(VOVworld) - Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) Vu Hong Nam paid a visit to Australia from October 29–November 1 to learn firsthand about the Vietnamese community there. He visited Cabramatta, a suburb of Sydney that is home to about 40,000 Vietnamese people, the largest community in Australia. In his meetings with overseas Vietnamese there, Nam expressed his hope that local Vietnamese society will stay united and support each other while preserving their national identity and culture and strengthening the two countries’ relations.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam visited New Caledonia, a territory of France in the Pacific Ocean about 1,200 kilometers east of Australia. Nam met with representatives of the 4,000 Vietnamese residents of the territory and local authorities, briefing them on Vietnam’s socio-economic status and future objectives, as well as its new policies on overseas Vietnamese affairs.
