“Open Day” held in Geneva for UN 70 celebration

(VOVworld) - As the world celebrated the United Nations' 70th anniversary on Saturday, the global organization in Geneva opened its doors to the public to bring them closer to the UN's work following the end of World War II.

One of the highlights of the event is the inauguration of Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto's “Rebirth” sculpture which is made of 193 stones, each representing a UN Member States.

Addressing the function, Michael Moller, director general of the UN Office in Geneva, said “Open Day” is the day people from around the globe can come to learn more about activities of the biggest body of the world with up to 10,000 meetings every year.

Various activities were held on “Open Day” sponsored by the Swedish government and the Geneva administration. They were free guided tours of the office, musical, ballet performances, and sport games for people of all ages.
