Over 1,300 state owned enterprises to be restructured

Vietnam targets to restructure more than 1,300 state owned enterprises (SOE) over the next 5 years. The Steering Committee on Enterprises Reform met in Hanoi on Thursday to review 10 years of SOE’s restructuring since 2001. The committee said over the past decade, 4,700 enterprises have been restructured and nearly 3,400 enterprises of the figure have been equitized.  Participants pointed out weakness in the reform of enterprises, which haven't matched the resources allocated to it. The committee sets an objective of more than 570 state companies to be equitized by 2015 and promote solutions to ensure better corporate performance.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged for further efforts to improve the efficiency of SOEs, one of the 3 key components for restructuring the national economy.
