(VOvworld) – Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has called on Palestinian people to prevent Israeli settlers from entering the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and use all necessary means to protect the holy site.
Abbas made the appeal following clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian demonstrators who protest Jews visiting the mosque.
Al Aqsa mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, is revered by Jews as the location of the biblical Jewish temples, Judaism’s holiest place.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to protect the Al Aqsa mosque but the Islamic followers worry that the Jews will retake the mosque.
