(VOVworld) – On Friday, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong received in Hanoi the US Secretary of State John Kerry who is on a visit to Vietnam. Mr. Trong hailed the results of talks between Vietnamese leaders and Mr. Kerry, highlighting the necessity for both sides to maintain exchanges of high-ranking visits to boost mutual understanding and implement the two countries’ strategic partnership in a more concrete and effective manner. He acknowledged the efforts made by both countries’ negotiating teams on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, saying that Vietnam will continue to cooperate closely with the US and other related parties to complete this agreement soon.

Mr. Kerry said the US attaches importance to enhancing ties with Vietnam and considers it to be one of the US important partners in the region. He pledged to boost the implementation of commitments with Vietnam in priority issues in accordance with the two countries’ Joint Statement on Bilateral Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and the Vietnam-US Joint Vision Statement in 2015. He briefed Mr. Trong about the US position on the East Sea issue, the TPP negotiations, and several upcoming measures to finalize this agreement.
