Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong receives Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid

(VOVworld)- Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has affirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of respecting cooperation with traditional friends including Bangladesh. At a meeting with the visiting Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid in Hanoi on Monday, the Vietnamese Party leader urged further cooperation between the two ruling parties, parliaments and people-to-people exchanges. He stressed the importance of increasing bilateral cooperation in national defense, economics, trade, investment, science and technology, culture and tourism. Mr. Trong proposed that both sides increase mutual support at regional and global forums, especially at the UN, in the Non-Aligned Movement and at the Asia-Europe Economic Cooperation.

President Hamid expressed his hopes of boosting friendship and cooperation with Vietnam in various fields including delegate exchanges, and in economics and trade cooperation. The Bangladeshi President stressed the need to enhance mutual support at regional and global forums and said Bangladesh was ready to share with Vietnam its experiences in participating in UN peacekeeping missions.

President Hamid also met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and attended a banquet hosted by President Truong Tan Sang and his wife.

At a meeting with the Bangladeshi President on the same day, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed his hope that the two countries would continue to boost comprehensive cooperation in all fields, especially in ties between the two legislative bodies.  President Abdul Hamid praised Vietnam’s achievements in national liberation struggles, renewal and development. The two sides agreed to increase mutual support at the Inter-Parliamentary General Assembly and share their experiences in legislation and supervision.
