At a meeting on Wednesday in Hanoi to discuss progress of negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) with US Trade Representative Michael Froman, Hue noted that the TPP negotiation is important to Vietnam-US economic ties.
He urged the US to take into account Vietnam’s interest in accessing markets for garments and textiles, footwear, and farm produce. He urged the US to soon recognise Vietnam’s market economy, stressing that Vietnam will spare no effort to narrow its economic gap with other countries. The US trade representative affirmed the US’s determination to press ahead with the negotiation in order to finalize it this year.
