Prime Minister receives US Secretary of the Interior

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received US Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell in Hanoi on Tuesday. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of working together with the US to deepen their comprehensive cooperative partnership, contributing to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

He said that Vietnam wants to increase political and diplomatic ties with the US and promote bilateral economic, trade, investment, and tourism cooperation. Concerning the TPP agreement, he asked both sides to continue to show good will and efforts in negotiations with necessary flexibility for Vietnam. He said he hoped that Vietnam and the US will continue to bolster cooperation in education, training, science, technology, national defense, security, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Prime Minister Dung said he hoped the US will continue to help Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of dioxin, unexploded bombs and mines, protecting wild animals, dealing with climate change and rising sea level, protecting water resources including implementing the Lower Mekong Initiative, and supporting Vietnam in mineral exploration, geology, and hydro-meteorology.

Secretary Sally pledged to contribute to the development of bilateral ties. She said that the US government is committed to supporting Vietnam become an independent, strong and sustainable nation. Regarding the TPP, she said that she and other members of the US government will continue to promote for early completion of negotiations and ratification of the agreement.
