Seminar discusses Vietnam-EU free trade agreement

(VOVworld)-The American Chamber of Commerce in the European Union (AmchamEU) on Thursday held a seminar to discuss the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) negotiation process. The Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Pham Sanh Chau, gave an introduction to the background, process and goal of the negotiations. Representatives of US firms pointed out differences between the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the EU-VN FTA, particularly Vietnam’s priorities in the talks, as well as emerging difficulties. Chau briefed the group on Vietnam’s plans to support an early completion of the EVFTA negotiations and underscored the common benefits enterprises may gain from this agreement, calling for more support from the business community. AmchamEU leaders pledged to collect the opinions of the chamber’s members and submit them to the European Commission (EC) and the European Parliament.
