In a press conference following the 90-minute talk, President Obama said he and successor-in-waiting Donald Trump had an excellent and wide-ranging conversation on both domestic and foreign policy. Obama said his priority during his last two months in office will be to facilitate the transition to the incoming administration to ensure the next president is successful.

Trump said he and President Obama had a serious discussion on a lot of different topics, and said he hoped to continue talks to prepare for a smooth transition of power.

The same day, The Hill, the official newspaper of the US Congress, reported that Donald Trump's transition team has prepared a preliminary list of potential Cabinet members for his new administration. Among the 41 names on the list are other Republican nominees, including neurosurgeon Ben Carson, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and former speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich.
