The announcement was made one day after Cuban President Raul Castro and US President Barack Obama announced an historic agreement to re-establish diplomatic relations which were interrupted half a century ago.

Assistant Secretary of State Roberta Jacobson said on Thursday that regular talks in Havana have already been scheduled for routine US-Cuba immigration issues, and meetings will be expanded to include the process of re-establishing relations.

Jacobson noted that American authorities have begun to consider removing Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, a prerequisite for ending US sanctions against Cuba.

The same day, the White House weighed a possible visit by Cuban president Raul Castro. The White House has built a website in Spanish, listing solutions Obama has published for normalizing diplomatic relations, easing travel restrictions, sending overseas remittances, granting visas for travel to Cuba, and several changes in exports and imports.
