Vietnam contributes to success of APA Executive Council Meeting

(VOVworld) – A Vietnamese National Assembly delegation led by Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong is attending the second Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Executive Council Meeting and the ninth APA Plenary (APA-9) that opened in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on Monday.

In a speech on Tuesday, Ms. Phong urged Asian countries to continue promoting peace, and security and dealing with shared challenges. She said it is essential to build trust, boost mutual understanding, resolve disputes through dialogue, based on international law, and respect sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ms. Phong said that as a co-founder of the APA, Vietnam continues to consistently implement its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, multi-lateralization, and diversification of foreign relations, and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for development. Ms. Phong said the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to work with APA members to build a peaceful and stable Asian region.

On Tuesday, Vice Chairwoman Phong attended the meeting of female parliamentarians.

On the sideline of the meeting, Ms. Phong paid a courtesy visit to Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Samdech Heng Samrin. Mr. Samrin spoke highly of the role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in the success of the meeting.
