Vietnam holds a national day of mourning for Cuban leader Fidel Castro

(VOVworld) – Cuba President Fidel Castro Ruz, Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban revolution, former First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, former President of Council of State and Council of Ministers, passed away at the age of 90.

To commemorate the great friend and close brother of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, Vietnam held a national day of mourning for Mr. Castro on Sunday, December 4. All government agencies and Vietnam’s representative offices abroad fly the flag at half-mast and public entertainment activities were cancelled.

Many localities have organized commemorations for Fidel Castro. Ben Tre province held a service in Moncada village, Giong Trom district. Nguyen Minh Trung, Vice Chairman of Giong Trom district said Fidel Castro is a great friend and close brother of the Vietnamese people. President Fidel Castro, President Ho Chi Minh, and other leaders of the two countries fostered and strengthened the Vietnam-Cuba relationship. Quang Tri province held a memorial service for Fidel Castro and an exhibition featuring the Cuban leader’s activities in Quang Tri in 1973. Le Viet Tri from Dong Ha city expressed his feeling: “Fidel Castro was a great leader. He was the first and only state leader visiting Quang Tri when it was liberated. These photos make me cry. I wish that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship will be enhanced.”
