Vietnam ready for UN peacekeeping activities

(VOVworld)- The Ministry of Defense held a conference to review Vietnam’s one-year participation in the UN peacekeeping mission and introduced a project on building a Peacekeeping Center in Vietnam. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, UN Secretary General and representatives of the UN, embassies and foreign Defense Attaches in Vietnam attended the event.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh said participating in the UN peacekeeping mission is a difficult but noble task. Vietnamese military officers will be Vietnamese Ambassadors for peace who will contribute to maintaining peace and security in Vietnam and the world. Mr. Minh praised the UN Chief and UN agencies for supporting Vietnam and expressed his hope that the UN chief would facilitate Vietnam to further participate in the UN peacekeeping mission.

The UN Chief said he hoped the Peacekeeping Center of Vietnam would contribute to improving the capabilities of officers and encourage them to enthusiastically participate in the UN peacekeeping activities.

Also on Saturday, the UN Chief attended the 9th session of the 13th National Assembly of Vietnam. He spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements in implementing Millennium Development Goals expressing his belief that with its experience, Vietnam will also be one of the pioneers in implementing Sustainable Development Goals in the time ahead.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said on the basis of respecting human rights and the rights to democracy and freedom of all countries worldwide, Vietnam is always active in taking part in UN organisations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
