Vietnamese President urges APEC to prioritize changing

Delegates agreed to speed up APEC’s new strategies on restructuring the economy, promoting green growth, creating jobs, developing infrastructure, improving trade connectivity and regional supply chain while encouraging the participation and contributions of businesses. In a joint statement released after the summit, leaders of the 21 APEC economies pledged to speeding up regional economic integration in order to achieve sustainable growth amid the fragile possibility of the world economy’s recovery.

In the Honolulu Declaration - Toward a Seamless Regional Economy, posted on the APEC’s official website, APEC leaders committed to taking specific measures to build a seamless regional economy for mutual benefits, agreed to increase efforts for green growth and energy security as well as cooepration in legal regulations and other issues. They reached a concensus on cutting taxes on environmental friendly goods  under 5% before 2015 and consider improving free trade an important factor for the global economy’s recovery.

Addressing the summit, President Truong Tan Sang urged APEC countries take a general and comprehensive approach to address the issues with timely and resolute actions at national, regional and global levels to avoid the risk of a new recession. He stressed that APEC should prioritize changing growth model, narrowing the development gaps, transfering technologies and improving human resource training as well as building the ASEAN community and a general plan on ASEAN connectivity and cooperation in Mekong sub region.

President Sang and other APEC leaders also had dialogues with APEC Business Advisory Council on four main topics: regional economic integration, sustainable development, small and medium-sized enterprises and job generation.
