The figures were released at a conference held in Hanoi on Wednesday by the General Statistics Office (GSO) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) to announce the 2014 Vietnam Intercensal Population and Housing Survey (IPS). The IPS showed that over the past five years, Vietnam’s population increased by 4,646,000, or 929,000 annually. The total fertility rate was at 2.09 children per woman. The sex ratio at birth was 112 male births for every 100 female births, higher than 2009’s figures. The total dependency ratio was at 44%, and this demonstrated that Viet Nam is still in a period of 'golden population structure'. Proportion of population aged above 65 accounted for 7.1%, and the aging population ratio hit 44.6%, which affirmed that Vietnam is approaching the period of aging population structure.
