(VOVworld) – Farmers and fishermen understand that ignorance of  technology in agriculture and aquaculture can lead to products of lower quality and value. Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan pointed this out during the Sunday TV program “People Ask, Minister Answers”, noting that his ministry has given a lot of attention to this matter. Minister Quan said his ministry received technology from Japan two years ago that can preserve tuna and other aqua products for a long time. He said this technology has been successfully tested on tuna, prawns, and certain agricultural products but needs further processing steps from Japan to make it widely applicable. A factory to help fishermen in Phu Yen and Binh Dinh province preserve tuna will soon be built in Phu Yen, said Quan. Regarding the technology to make black or fermented garlic, Quan said Vietnam’s Military Medical Academy has mastered this technology and is ready to transfer it to farmers. Minister Quan also revealed that the Ministry has cooperated with Japan in a 1 million USD program to preserve agricultural products immediately after they are harvested. The technology used in this program is called the Cell Alive System (CAS). It can preserve both aquaculture and agricultural products for export.
