New Year celebrations for overseas Vietnamese

(VOVworld) – The Permanent Vietnamese Mission to the United Nations held a get-together to celebrate the upcoming traditional Lunar New Year for overseas Vietnamese in New York City. Speaking at the event on Sunday, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, Head of the Mission, said that Vietnam pledges to continue being an active and responsible member of the United Nations, contributing to global peace, security, and prosperity. 

In Vientiane, the Vietnamese embassy coordinated with the Vietnamese cultural center to open a newsstand to celebrate Lunar New Year.

The newsstand gives a panoramic view of Vietnamese media to the Vietnamese community in Laos. A crowd of overseas Vietnamese in Laos visited the event to express their feeling for the homeland. Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung said: “People are very excited to get the latest news about their homeland. We, on behalf of overseas Vietnamese, are thankful to the media for providing the Vietnamese embassy in Laos with newspapers to hold this special event on the occasion of Lunar New Year”.

Some 700 overseas Vietnamese in Thailand attended an art performance to welcome Lunar New Year in Bangkok on Saturday. At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Tat Thanh praised the Vietnamese community’s practical contributions to the homeland and called on people to preserve their national character by teaching and learning Vietnamese and increasing solidarity among the community.

The Vietnamese embassy in Switzerland held a meeting to welcome Lunar New Year. Hoang Van Khan, who has celebrated Lunar New Year for more than 40 years in Europe, expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to develop and that the Vietnamese community in Switzerland will have more opportunities to gather in order to create a connection between overseas Vietnamese.

Vietnamese people in Hong Kong and Macau in China held a get-together to welcome Lunar New Year.

The Vietnamese embassy in Venezuela held an annual meeting in Caracas on Saturday to celebrate Lunar New Year. At the meeting, the ambassador and the Vietnamese community in Venezuela burnt incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh, joined cultural activities, and ate traditional Tet dishes prepared by the embassy staff.
