Vietnam, WB discuss climate change response

(VOVworld) – The National Committee for Climate Change and a WB delegation have discussed the development of low-carbon development and other climate change responses to help the Vietnamese government build comprehensive policies and programs to mobilize the necessary financial sources for the process and boost Vietnam’s role in the climate change reduction globally. The high-level talks were co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minsiter and Head of the Committee, Hoang Trung Hai, and WB Vice President and Special Envoy for climate change, Rachel Kyte, in Hanoi on Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said Vietnam has been actively boosting economic restructuring and growth model reform, and taking advantage of the nation’s potential to raise national competitiveness. In this process, responding to climate change is of great significance because of its interactive impact on other development factors, and a decisive role in national sustainable development. WB Vice President Rachel Kyte said the WB’s visit to Vietnam was intended to assess the impact and risks of climate change in Vietnam.

During the talks, both sides expressed their mutual appreciation for the outcomes of their bilateral partnership. They were keen to further boost cooperation, striving towards sustainable development in Vietnam through effectively reducing poverty and boosting green growth.
