Vietnam marks 55th traditional day of border guard force

(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang sent greetings on Sunday to border guard cadres, soldiers and people on the occasion of the 55th traditional day of the force on March 3rd.

President Sang said the proactive contributions made by border guard force and people have helped Vietnam achieve successes and enhance its status in the international arena. Sang emphasized new challenges and opportunities, that require the border guards to do their best to grow, and safeguard national sovereignty and security, contributing to building a border of peace and friendship.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung 

The High Command of the border guard force held a ceremony on Sunday to the mark its traditional day and receive the Ho Chi Minh order. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told the ceremony:“Joining the Party, people and army to accomplish political tasks in the new situation, the border guard force needs to uphold its heroic tradition, successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress, and the Resolution of the recent 8th plenum of the Party Central Committee on “Strategy for National Defense in the new situation” and continue to build a stronger border guard force. Efforts should be made to thoroughly comprehend the foreign policies of the Party and State, create favorable conditions for economic cooperation between Vietnam and neighboring countries and build a border line of peace and friendship. It is necessary to proactively reform work methods and combine economic development with defense consolidation. The border guard force should become strong in terms of politics, ideology and organization, professional and elite force with gradual modernization. The force also needs to accomplish the task of mass mobilization to effectively fulfill its overall missions”

On Saturday night, a special program opened in Hanoi, featuring friendship in border areas. Present were Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan and Minister of National Defense Phung Quang Thanh. Delegates highlighted the border guard force’ important role in safeguarding territorial integrity. There were also performances performed by artists from Vietnam, China, Laos and Cambodia.
