(VOVworld) – A workshop on the role of businesses in increasing national competitiveness amid international integration opened in Hanoi on Friday.
Delegates agreed that as Vietnam integrates further into the world community, in addition to reforming state institutions, businesses should increase their competitiveness.
The ASEAN Community will be formed in 2015 and Vietnam is about to complete negotiations on a number of free trade agreements with its key partners: the EU, the Republic of Korea, and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Vietnam is also accelerating negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
These new playing fields require Vietnam to increase its economic competitiveness, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son: “In addition to restructuring the growth model and the economy, modernizing the infrastructure, and improving human resources, Vietnam is implementing a number of coordinated measures to improve its business environment and competitiveness.”

The workshop was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
