(VOVworld) – The 26^th session of the UN Human Rights Council closed in Geneva on Friday. The council approved 31 resolutions and 2 decisions and released the President’s Statement. The session’s agenda included the exercise of human rights, the human rights situation in some nations and ways to increase technical assistance in ensuring and promoting human rights for Belarus, Ukraine, Ivory Coast, and South Sudan.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN in Geneva. The Vietnamese delegation contributed opinions to all the topics of discussion and confirmed Vietnam’s commitment to protecting and promoting human rights. Vietnam co-sponsored 9 resolutions including those on gender equality, protecting vulnerable groups in society, and rights to education and healthcare.

The council approved the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of 14 countries including Vietnam. Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh said that Vietnam accepted 182 out of the 227 recommendations it received from the first review in February 2014, an acceptance rate of 80.17%. Representatives of many countries and international organizations praised Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in ensuring human rights and its acceptance of most of the recommendations as well as its contributions to the UPR process.
