The summit week will be the last and most important event of APEC Year 2017. As the host country, Vietnam is creating optimal conditions for the event.

Promoting Vietnam

An international press center which can accommodate 4,000 people and is equipped with broadband internet and satellite TV services has been opened in Da Nang. Le Thi Thu Hang is on the APEC Year 2017 Subcommittee for Culture Promotion. She said “We have been working to ensure the best conditions for journalists to cover APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. We want to inform the world of this international event taking place in Vietnam and advertise our land, people, and achievements.”

More than 100 meetings involving tens of thousands of officials, businesspeople, and journalists from 21 APEC member countries have been held throughout Vietnam’s cities and provinces this year. Experience gained from organizing these events will be drawn on to better prepare the summit week from November 6 to 11. Ms. Hang said this will be a big opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam. “The APEC National Committee decided that activities will be held not only in major cities but also in 10 smaller localities. On the sidelines of the 100 meetings, localities organized events to promote their trade and culture to the foreign guests. We are coordinating with the authorities of Da Nang and Hoi An, the principal venues of APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, to stage cultural and art events to show that Vietnam is a country of reform, integration, development, and traditional culture.”

Multilateral diplomacy

APEC 2017 is Vietnam’s key foreign policy until 2020 and a strategic priority for greater international integration and improvement of multilateral diplomacy. Successful hosting of APEC Economic Leaders’ Week will send a persuasive and vivid message about Vietnam’s economic gains, cultural diversity, and tourism potential.
