The conference’s theme “Parliamentary partnership for peace, innovation and sustainable development” reflects the development trend of international legislation at multilateral forums. Peace, stability, and sustainable development are common concerns around the world. By choosing the theme, APPF parliamentarians have supported the 2017Da Nang Declaration of APEC leaders on “Creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future.”

Vu Hai Ha, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Foreign Affairs, says: “The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting delivered a strong message on boosting economics and trade cooperation in the region. Parliaments play an important role in institutionalizing agreements and monitoring the implementation of international commitments. The parliamentarians will discuss cooperation on the environment, climate change, food security, combating terrorism, and cross-border crimes.”

Vietnam’s practical contributions

This will be the 2nd time Vietnam’s National Assembly has hosted APPF’s annual conference. As Chair of the upcoming event, Vietnam’s National Assembly continues to affirm its active role and practical contributions to the Forum to ensure the interests of Vietnam and the region. Vietnam has been involved in finalizing some draft resolutions for the conference.

To mark APPF’s 26 years of development, Vietnam’s National Assembly has proposed the Hanoi APPF Declaration “A New Vision for the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership”.

Mr. Ha again: “Vietnam has introduced 6 draft resolutions on peace, security, sustainable development, climate change, regional cooperation, food security, and cultural promotion for tourism growth. These are common concerns of other countries. Vietnam has initiated the Hanoi Declaration on a new vision for the Asia-Pacific parliamentary partnership to advocate the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and commitments made at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang last year.”

Hosting APPF-26 is a highlight diplomatic event of the 14th National Assembly and a landmark in Vietnam’s international integration.
