The 30 years of renewal have effected comprehensive reform by the Party and the people for the goals of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, equality, and civilization.

National reform under the Party’s leadership

The 6th National Party Congress decided to shift a bureaucratic, subsidized economy toward a socialist-oriented market economy. That was considered the economic model for the transitional period, entailing different economic sectors and forms of ownership, trading, and distribution. Appropriate policies and solutions have enabled Vietnam to obtain impressive socio-economic results during the 30 years of renewal which have been recognized internationally. Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Viet Thong is Secretary General of the Central Theoretical Council: “Vietnam has leaped over the economic crisis and the state of poverty to become a middle-income country. Vietnam has pushed ahead with national industrialization and modernization and built a socialist-oriented market economy.”

The Communist Party of Vietnam aims to coordinate economic growth and cultural development and ensure social advancement and equality in policies. The Party attaches importance to developing education, science, and technology. Social policies have been implemented to improve people’s living conditions. Income per capita in 2015 was 2,100 USD, compared to just 100 USD before the renewal process. The Party and State have worked to sustainably reduce poverty and have created business incentive policies. The social security network and insurance services have been expanded.

The Party and State have acted to strengthen international cooperation and prompted bilateral and multi-lateral relations aimed at attracting foreign investment and fully exploiting international cooperative mechanisms. Professor, Doctor Vu Minh Giang, a member of the Central Theoretical Council, said: “The 6th National Party Congress was a milestone in Vietnam’s history. It made a breakthrough for Vietnam’s development under the Party leadership.”

Consensus between the Party’s guidelines and the people’s aspirations

Achievements of the renewal process have affirmed the party’s wise leadership and Vietnam’s effective development toward socialism. Vu Van Phuc, Editor-in-chief of the Communist Review, said: “Vietnam’s revolutionary achievements over the past 86 years and the 30 years of renewal initiated and led by the Party have proved the wisdom of the Party’s leadership. The Party has deserved its role as leader and organizer of Vietnam’s revolution. Actual achievements have reflected the consensus between the Party’s guidelines and the people’s aspirations in national defense and construction.”

Professor, Doctor Vu Minh Giang, says the Party has placed the interests of the nation and people above everything and has created policies matching the people’s needs. “The Party’s prestige and the people’s support are valuable assets of the Party. The Party works for the interest of the nation and the people, so it is supported by the people. Vietnam can overcome all challenges.”

In 2016 the Party and the people will begin implementing the resolution of the 12th National Party Congress. With the lessons of the renewal process, the Party’s wise leadership, and the people’s unity, Vietnam will continue to advance toward its goals of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, equality, and civilization.
