(VOVWORLD) - Da Nang city has appealed philanthropists to help disadvantaged children enjoy the Lunar New Year.

More than 150 orphans and disadvantaged children in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Da Nang gathered at the SOS village in Da Nang to receive Tet gifts and new clothes. Le Thi Binh is from in Nong Son district, Quang Nam province: “During Tet, many fun activities are held, making us very happy. Prior to Tet, we made jams and sticky rice cakes. We also participated in many Tet celebration programs and received many gifts.”

Usually, before Tet, the Da Nang SOS village slaughters a pig, prepare a year-end feast. On the first day of the lunar New Year, all the kids in the village receive lucky money.  Nguyen Quang Thai is Director of the Da Nang SOS village: “Every year, we organize Tet programs for the kids. Philanthropists come here and help the kids make sticky rice cakes and organize various activities for them,”

Over the past week, kids in the village have been busy preparing Tet food items like pickled onions and jams, creating a warmer atmosphere during cold winter days.

The Da Nang Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin victims has raised millions of USD and received thousands of gift sets, warm clothes, blankets, mosquito nets, electric fans, and other necessities. Tra Thanh Lanh, Vice Chairman of the Association, said: "Each gift set is worth 400,000 to 500,000 VND. This shows the community support for the victims to overcome their pain.”

Da Nang city has also organized various art programs and visits for local disadvantaged children during Tet.
