Domestic tours dominate this New Year celebration because the holiday is short and close to the lunar New Year Festival. Destinations with scenic spots, and religious and ecological sites are the most favored.

Popular northern mountain destinations include Hoang Su Phi, Moc Chau and Ta Xua in the north and Nha Trang, Da Lat and Phu Quoc in the south. Thanks to Christmas and New Year events like the Copenhagen Christmas and New Year Fair and the beach EDM Festival, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc have attracted lots of visitors. The year-end period is also the season for MICE tourism. Major destinations for this type of tourism are Ha Long, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Phu Quoc. Each tour lasts from 3 or 4 days.

Package tours are forecast to increase 30 to 40% during the upcoming lunar New Year Festival, with the COVID-19 pandemic now under control. Early booking for those tours will benefit from various promotional programs.

Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said: "Localities and businesses need to strengthen cooperation to revive the tourism market and create new tourism products. We also need to enhance links between regions and destinations, improve tourism staff quality, and reform tourism promotion activities. Only by doing so can the Vietnamese hospitality sector become a spearhead economic sector."

The New Year holidays are a golden opportunity for tourism businesses to increase revenues, recover and grow. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Vietnam’s tourism market recovered strongly in 2022 receiving more than 100 million domestic tourists and 3.6 million foreign tourists. Next year, Vietnam aims to welcome 110 million tourists including 8 million foreigners.
