Inflation control, macro-economic stability, reasonable growth- top priorities

(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung says Vietnam will do its best to complete this year’s remaining tasks. In a report presented at the 4th session of the 13th National Assembly, the Prime Minister introduced several measures to realize this year’s socio-economic development targets.

The Prime Minister said the complicated economic fluctuations in the world pose challenges for the government’s socio-economic development plans. Therefore, the government has resolutely implemented synchronous measures to implement the National Assembly’s resolution on inflation control, stabilizing the macro economy and maintaining a reasonable growth in combination with restructuring the national growth model and economy, improving competitiveness and ensuring social security. By September, according to the Prime Minister, the macro-economy has seen significant progresses. Inflation has been controlled, the Consumer Price Index in the first nine months grew by 5.13%, revenues reached 67.3% of the yearly plan, total investment capital totaled 29.5% of the GDP, the economy grew 4.73% and GDP this year is expected to reach 5.2%. The Prime Minister has approved and directed programs on restructuring state-owned enterprises, the financial and banking markets and investments. The Prime Minister has paid attention to social policy programs to generate jobs and income and reduce poverty. Statistics show that the poverty rate has fallen 1.76% and most cultural, educational and training development targets have been reached and even surpassed. Administrative reforms have been synchronously carried out in terms of mechanism, personnel organizations, procedures, and public finance. Anti-corruption work has been resolutely implemented in line with the Party’s resolution on Party building. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said: "Generally, in the context of multiple challenges, implementation of the socio-economic plan this year has closely followed the targets set out in the Party and National Assembly resolutions. 10 of the 15 targets have been achieved and surpassed. Inflation has been controlled, the macro-economy has stabilized, and economic growth has steadily increased after quarter. The agricultural sector has grown strongly, initial results have been seen in restructuring the economy and growth model, and social security has been ensured. Vietnam has also seen positive results in external affairs, and international integration. National defense and security has been strengthened, and social order has been improved".

According to the Prime Minister, 2013 will be an important milestone in implementing the five-year plan till 2015. The government proposed the National Assembly to take into consideration the following targets for next year. "Next year, it’s important to further strengthen macro-economic stability, rein in inflation, and increase economic growth. These targets should be implemented in combination with restructuring the economy and shifting the growth model while at the same time, ensuring social security and social welfare. It’s necessary to improve the efficiency of external affairs and international integration, strengthen national defense and security, and ensure socio-political stability, thus creating a momentum for the following years", said Prime Minister Dung.

Next year, the GDP is set to increase 5.5%, total export value 10%, and the poverty rate fall by 2%. 1.6 million jobs will be created. The Prime Minister outlined 9 measures to reach national targets which strengthening the macro-economy, controlling inflation, helping enterprises boost production, restructuring the economy, and shifting the growth model. The Prime Minister underlined the need to ensure social security and welfare, improve people’s lives, boost education, training, and scientific and technological development, strengthen state management of land, natural resources, environmental protection, natural disaster prevention and control and coping with climate change. According to the Prime Minister, it’s important to accelerate administrative reforms, promote people’s rights, combat corruption and waste, ensure national defense and security, and promote communication activities to create consensus in society.

In the government report, the Prime Minister stressed that as a Politburo member and Prime Minister, he takes responsibility as the head of the government and apologized to the National Assembly, the Party and the people for the government’s mistakes in managing and governing, especially in inspecting and supervising state economic groups and corporations. Prime Minister Dung said that the government, the Prime Minister and each cabinet member will review their performance and will unite to overcome any weaknesses, correct mistakes and fulfill their assigned tasks for the country, people, the Party, the regime, stability and sustainable development.
