The amount of retail goods just before the Tet holiday in Hanoi is predicted to increase by 10-15% over last year. Hanoi’s People’s Committee has asked local businesses to stockpile goods in order to keep prices steady. Le Thi Kim Oanh, Vice President of the municipal Fatherland Front, said: “Consumption needs are huge during the Tet holiday so by the middle of last year city authorities assigned relevant departments to prepare enough goods to meet market demand.”

Binh Thuan Commercial Joint Stock company in Binh Thuan province has increased its stockpile 10% from last year focusing on potential products in demand such as confectionaries, beverages, petroleum, and gas. The Nam Trung Bo food company has stockpiled 200 tones of rice and milk worth 150,000 USD. Luu Van Mao, Director of G7Mart of the Binh Thuan Commercial Joint Stock company, said: “We began to stockpile goods for Tet in November, 2015. Essential goods such as beverages and confectionaries have been stockpiled. We aim to avoid shortages of goods to keep prices steady.”

Businesses in Binh Thuan will have mobile kiosks to serve people in mountain areas.

In Can Tho city, 7 businesses have registered for the program to stabilize prices. Stockpiled goods are worth more than 20 million USD, 5 million USD higher than last year. They will open retail outlets to sell 11 products at stable prices. Vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam said: “Goods with steady prices will be sold in city centers, rural areas, crowded residential areas, and industrial parks. Mobile outlets will be opened to meet people’s diverse demands.”
