In 2015 overseas Vietnamese businesses organized Vietnamese Lychee Day in Australia and the Week to Support Vietnamese Fruits in France to promote the export of Vietnamese lychees. As a result, Vietnam exported 9 tons of lychee to France, 75 tons to Malaysia, and more than 30 tons to Australia. Overseas Vietnamese investors have expanded their businesses in Vietnam. So far, overseas Vietnamese have invested in 52 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam. Most of their investment involves producing export items, and aquaculture, processing and exports. Duong Phuong Thao is Deputy Head of the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade: “With their economic potential, management capability and relations with local enterprises, overseas Vietnamese businesses can help promote Vietnam’s exports. In 2015, thanks to support from overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese lychees became more familiar to foreign customers. If these efforts continue, Vietnam’s exports will grow”.

In recent years, the Vietnamese government has implemented several incentives to increase overseas Vietnamese investment.  Under the revised Investment Law and Enterprise Law, and several related Decrees, overseas Vietnamese and foreigners who are spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens can enter Vietnam without a visa. This makes it easier for overseas Vietnamese businesses to export Vietnamese products. The government also has an Action Plan to realize Decrees 45 and the Politburo’s Decree 36 on overseas Vietnamese affairs to further mobilize Vietnamese resources overseas. Vice President and Secretary General of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Businesses Bui Dinh Dinh said:“Enterprises can cooperate with state agencies to develop a directory of Vietnamese enterprises inside and outside Vietnam listing their names, their products and their weaknesses and strengths. Enterprises should be provided with an account to update their information on the directory. We also need to further promote the trademarks of Vietnamese products overseas”.

Vietnam has become a member of a wider market after signing more than 10 Free Trade Agreements with individual countries and blocs. This creates an opportunity to connect Vietnamese enterprises inside and outside Vietnam to further expand Vietnam’s export markets.
