The Hanoi Employment Service Center held a recruitment session where 20 businesses offered 340 job vacancies for people with disabilities in garment and textile companies, handicrafts, IT, and electronics.

The Center said the job opportunities focus first on people 18 to 25 and then people 26 to 35. The demand is lowest for workers with disabilities over 35.

Tran Tuyet Lan of the SEED Vocational Center for People with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism, said that making handmade products, such as labels and silk flowers, attracts a lot of young people with disabilities.

“Our mission is training and career guidance. After training, they can get a job and earn a salary. The label work can earn them 170 to 430 USD per month. We train them so they can make a living by themselves.”

Vietnam has about 7 million people with disabilities, 7% of the population 2 years old or older. 61% of the people with disabilities are of working age, of which 40% are able to work. Vocational training and job creation helps people with disabilities improve their life and integrate into the community.

Nguyen Van Hoi, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said: “The government has implemented a socio-economic recovery and development program which allocates an additional 1.27 billion USD to the National Fund for Job Generation. Many people with disabilities will be help to secure jobs and develop a household economy.

"Another program is the Vocational Training Program for rural workers, part of the National Target Program on vocational training and employment. That program helps people with a severe disability access the labor market. Each year 20,000 people with severe disabilities and in difficult circumstances receive vocational training at institutions. The State helps some 2 million children with disabilities access integrated education,” Hoi said.

People with disabilities in Vietnam are being helped to get a job, improve their life, enjoy social quality, and contribute to social security.
