Promoting national solidarity

Deputy Secretary General of the National Assembly Le Minh Thong said the election provides an opportunity for citizens to fulfill their responsibility and promote national solidarity. Through elections, the Vietnamese people show their determination to defend national independence and territorial integrity and continue pursuing national development and international integration. Thong added that preparations are going smoothly despite a huge workload at central and local levels: “The election for the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils will take place in special circumstances, so communications and other preparations are vitally important.  This is the first time we’ve combine the National Assembly election and the People’s Council elections since the adoption of the 2013 Constitution, which champions human rights and citizens’ rights”.

Responsible and wise voters

There will be 4 lists of candidates for deputies of central, provincial, district, and communal levels for voters to choose from. According to Nguyen Van Pha, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, it’s important to choose competent candidates and voters should study their biographies carefully: “Voters have to choose the best of 3 to 5 candidates on each of 4 lists. Without studying 20 candidates’ biographies, a voter nay make a hasty and ill-considered choice. That’s why the Party, administration and Fatherland Front intend to expand election campaign materials in compliance with law so that voters can learn about each candidate’s plan of action and choose the right person”.

The success of the election depends on voters’ sense of responsibility and wisdom. Voter Nguyen Viet Thuy of North Tu Liem district, Hanoi, said: “Each of the millions of votes is very important in electing those who will take care of the people and the country. I hope all elected candidates will work for the people’s interests. A representative of the people should be honest and straightforward, should understand the people’s needs and contribute to national socio-economic development”.

By voting, citizens will express their trust in the representatives they elect who will help build a State of the people, for the people, and by the people and move the country forward on the path of industrialization, modernization, and global integration.
