The self-criticism and criticism drive touches urgent issues in Party building including preventing and resolving ideological, moral, and lifestyle deterioration on the part of State employees, Party members, and strengthening the capability and fighting spirit of Party organizations and the leading role of Party members, especially leaders at all levels. It will help consolidate the people’s trust in the Party. Members of Party Executive Committees, agencies’ managerial boards, and every individual from the central to the grassroots level are subjected to self-criticism and criticism. Ngo Van Du, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Inspection, evaluates the self-criticism and criticism session of the Politburo and the Secretariat. "The 16-day session passed through various steps including collective criticism and separate review of the four top leaders – the Party General Secretary, the President, the Prime Minister, and the National Assembly Chairman – and the 14 members of the Politburo and the Secretariat. The movement concluded when the Party Central Committee’s 6th session approved the report on self-criticism and criticism of the Politburo and the Secretariat by the end of September."

The political drive was of great significance for the Party’s purity and strength. The self-criticism and criticism sessions strictly followed the 4th Resolution and addressed the concerns of State employees and Party members. The discussions took place in a serious, frank, and constructive manner. Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong addressed outcomes of the self-criticism and criticism at the closing session of the 6th session of the Party Central Committee. "By self-criticizing, criticizing, and listening to suggestions by other state employees, Party members, and the public, members of the Politburo and the Secretariat have thoroughly recognized the strengths, shortcomings, and causes and worked out solutions to amend critical issues, promote positive elements, and tighten discipline to deter negative behaviors. The political drive was an opportunity for members of the Politburo and the Secretariat to better understand each other, exchange views, and enhance solidarity. It was a modeling of self-criticism and criticism for subordinate people to follow," Trong says.

After the 6th session of the Party Central Committee, and the initial outcomes of self-criticism and criticism in the Politburo and the Secretariat, Party cells at all levels have followed with high responsibility. Tran Hong Quan is a Party member in Thang Long party cell in Hanoi. "Self-criticism and criticism should be conducted by high-ranking leaders as well as by Party members who are in office or retired. The Fatherland Front’s organizations play an important part. The political drive requires our wholehearted determination for the Party and the nation."

The self-criticism and criticism movement has been an outstanding political event this year, which will have a certain impact on Party building work. Self-criticism and criticism activity will be organized regularly as a duty of state employees and Party members to enhance the Communist Party of Vietnam’s leadership.
