Southern provinces prepare to cope with typhoon Tembin

(VOVWORLD) - Typhoon Tembin is forecast to make landfall in coastal provinces from Ba Ria-Vung Tau to Ca Mau tonight/Monday after passing over the Truong Sa archipelago on Sunday. The Prime Minister, Ministries, sectors, and localities have been meeting to discuss response measures.

Typhoon-prone areas have been preparing to cope with a disaster. Ben Tre province will evacuate 22,000 people to safe places by noon today. People in coastal areas have secured their houses and prepared supplies. Vo Thi Luy is Chairman of the Thoi Thuan Communal People’s Committee in Ben Tre province: "Local people are bracing themselves for the typhoon. They have secured their houses and shelters for their animals. Some have evacuated to relatives’ houses or storm shelters.”

By tonight, people in Long An province will have been evacuated to safe places and the fortification of dykes will be completed. Pham Van Canh is Vice Chairman of the Long An Provincial People’s Committee: “All districts have arranged storm shelters and food supplies and evacuated people from dangerous places. We have organized teams to help the locals cope with the typhoon.”

Agencies in Tien Giang and Ca Mau province have urged ships to anchor in safe places. Radio stations are continuously updating listeners on the typhoon’s developments and reminding people of response measures and evacuating to safe places. Local medical stations have been put on high alert for emergency cases.
