Vi and Giam are sung by communities in Nghe An and Ha Tinh. The folk music is traditionally sung by people working in the rice fields, rowing boats, making handicrafts, or lulling children to sleep. In November, 2014, Vi and Giam folk singing was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Since then, Nghe An and Ha Tinh have established more than 300 clubs, attracting thousands of people to join and sing Vi and Giam. Songs performed at the festival depict rural life, customs and daily activities, and praise Vietnam’s development.

"The audience were treated to excellent performances at this year’s festival in all categories, from solo to duet singing. This year’s festival included many new artists and a greater investment in costumes and props.", said Musician Trinh Ngoc Chau, Deputy Head of the festival’s jury board.
