Localities nationwide have organized book exhibitions, book sale promotions, free reading corners, displays of calligraphy, and reading days at schools and in libraries.

On Thursday the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports launched the 2nd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day at the Hanoi Library and a project to revive public libraries.

The Hue Monument Conservation Center opened an exhibition called “National History Library of the Nguyen dynasty and national history writing – continuation of research, conservation and promotion of Hue cultural heritage.” The exhibition showcases the history of the National History Library and books about the Nguyen dynasty (1820-1945).

Hua Ngoc Minh Chau of Nguyen Hue Upper Secondary School visited the exhibition. She said:  "I have a reading habit and I like literature. I also read history books. I hope more young people will become interested in reading and learning about Vietnamese history."

Activities to mark Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day are being held in HCM City from April 19 to April 23. An exhibition of documents and publications marks the 48th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification and the 137th anniversary of May Day.

The provincial museum, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province have organized a display of books and book art and launched a reading campaign in the community.

These activities have been attracting a large number of young people. Nguyen Vo Ka Thy of Le Loi Upper Secondary School in Pleiku city said: "There are many kinds of books, but I prefer Vietnamese history books and books about President Ho Chi Minh. One of the books I like is “You are what you read” by Professor Robert DiYanni. That book was very helpful to me. It is like a handbook that makes reading easier. I love the book festival, too."

The Prime Minister's decision to hold a national Book and Reading Culture Day annually was signed in 2021.

The day encourages reading, contributes to building a learning society and honors readers, authors, publishers, printers and libraries.
