Vietnam Film Festival: Building a cinema industry embracing national identity

(VOVWORLD) - The 23rd Vietnam Film Festival opened in Da Lat city on Tuesday and runs until Saturday. This biennial cultural event is in Da Lat for the first time.

With the theme of building a Vietnamese cinema embracing national identity, modernity, and humanity, the Festival features several sideline activities including workshops, exchanges between movie artists and the audience, and an exhibition called "Da Lat – a source of inspiration for cinema".

147 films will be screened for free, including Nha Ba Nu (The House of No Man), Em va Trinh (You and Trinh), Nguoi Vo Cuoi Cung (The Last Wife), and Tro Tan Ruc Ro (Glorious Ashes). The films will also be screened at remote areas in Lam Dong province.

Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said: “Da Lat is not only an ideal destination for domestic and foreign tourists, but also a suitable filming location for many film projects. The 23rd Vietnam Film Festival being held for the first time in Da Lat city is an opportunity for artists and film directors to meet and share their experience.”

This is an opportunity for localities to promote tourism and expand connectivity. Pham S, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People's Committee, said: We assigned functional agencies to prepare for the Film Festival since July. We expect to receive about 190,000 visitors. This is an opportunity to promote provincial tourism. We are committed to working with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to successfully organize the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival.”

The Festival will present 20 Golden Lotus and Silver Lotus awards plus a "Most Popular Film" award voted by the audience.
