The foundation for the development of the Comprehensive Partnership in the past 10 years was respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, equal cooperation, and mutual benefit on the basis of international law.

Both countries have strengthened political and diplomatic relations by exchanging visits at all levels, promoted a relationship for mutual benefit, and shown respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political system.

They have improved collaboration at regional and global forums and global agendas. Bilateral trade increased more than fivefold, from 25 billion USD in 2012 to nearly 140 billion USD last year.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung told VOV reporter: “Many factors have contributed to the strong development of Vietnam-US relations. One important factor is the role of leaders and generations of Vietnamese and American people. The two sides have a lot of common interests. We have mutual understanding and respect, which creates goodwill, promotes shared development, and resolves disagreements.”

In a speech to mark 10 years of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership on Monday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted the partnerships between the two countries on economic issues, including promoting inclusive economic opportunity, resilient supply chains, and infrastructure. He noted that the US is helping Vietnam reach its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 while powering sustainable development and strengthening public health systems.

Blinken also touched on the issue of addressing the legacies of the Vietnam, stating that the US remains committed to clearing unexploded ordnance, eliminating dioxin hot spots, accounting for the missing, and other joint efforts. "For the United States, that's a matter of trust and a matter of duty," he said.

At a meeting with US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper on June 5th, Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong said that Vietnam respects the relationship with the US and considers the US its top partner. The achievements of the two countries have matched the aspiration of their people. The Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership will surely continue to develop on the basis of shared interest to benefit their people and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
