The Outstanding Young Faces of Vietnam Award is given annually by the Youth Union to honor exemplary young people under 35 years old.

This year’s youngest honoree is 15-year-old Dang Cat Tien of Thai Nguyen Middle School in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province. Tien passed selection rounds to play the role of Chairman at the Children's National Assembly mock session last September.

Other outstanding faces are Dr. Ngo Quoc Duy, 35, the author of the first report in Southeast Asia on successful robotic thyroidectomy surgery to treat thyroid cancer; Dinh Cao Son, 19, who won the gold medal at the 2023 International Chemistry Olympics; and 35-year-old rapper Nguyen Duc Cuong, a.k.a. Den Vau, for songs that inspire people to contribute to their community.

Cuong talked to us about his song Cooking for You: “I always want to do more when I see the effect of songs that bring people closer together. I, too, am inspired by the community response.”

Dang Duong Minh Hoang, 36, Director of the Binh Phuc Agricultural Service Cooperatives, a vanguard in digital transformation in agriculture, said: “We use QR codes to track the history of plants and animals, the watering date, and the license plate of the vehicle used to transport avocados and durians from the farm to the consumers. I’m working with the University of Natural Sciences of the Ho Chi Minh City National University of Sciences to use nanotechnology in sustainable pepper cultivation, using biological products with rice husk as input material.”

The awardees represent a new generation of Vietnamese youth who are hard-working, steadfast, and daring, and who are contributing to the community and to national development.
